Up-cycle with Pop-Cycle

Pop-Cycle is a hallmark of the 4th Avenue arts district in Tucson. Founded by Jennifer Radler of Monster Booty and Shannon Riggs and DeeDee Koenen of DDco Design, Pop-Cycle features items created from re-purposed/recycled items. It’s fun walking into their shop and finding jewelry make out of bottle caps, or old clothing embellished with with monster patches. It has certainly inspired my own work. Here are some of the items that Pop-Cycle has contributed to the AANA Holiday Fundraiser on November 9th.

Broaden Your Bookshelf with Feminist and Pro-Choice Books

Books are a great gifts. Abortion Access Network of Arizona is very lucky to have the following books available at our Holiday Fundraiser on November 9th. Our reading list will continue to grow as we receive more books from feminist/pro-choice authors.

Generation Roe is available through Seven Points Press.

Available through Seven Stories Press.

Generation Roe: Inside the Future of the Pro-Choice Movement, by Sarah Erdreich
Erdreich’s book is a must read for pro-choice activists. Generation Roe delves into anti-choice messaging tactics, such as “abortion-recovery counseling,” “crisis pregnancy centers,” and the infamous anti-choice “black children are an endangered species” billboards. The book also tells the stories of those who face threats on their lives to pursue careers in this stigmatized field; it outlines the outrageous legislative battle grounds that have popped up all over the country; and takes to task pro-choice activists for allowing the very words used in the debate to be controlled by anti-choice rhetoric (such as the term “pro-life”).

To read more about Sarah’s inspiration for writing the book, check out this interview she did with Feminists for Choice.

Talkin’ Trash . . . T-Shirt Style

Nothing looks better than a sassy activist T-shirt. Thanks to some fabulous feminist Etsy artisans, we’ll have quite a load of T-shirts and tank-tops available at the Holiday Fundraiser. Here’s a quick sample. Stayed tuned . . . there’s more fabulous clothing on the way.

Thanks to Pagan Chick for these shirts, which get straight to the point.

Give the Gift That Keeps on Giving

gift-300x199On Saturday, November 9, 2013 we are hosting a Holiday Fundraiser. We are looking for artists, authors, craftspeople, and businesses to donate items that we can sell at our fundraiser. Even more important than that? We need shoppers! All of the money we raise on November 9th will go directly towards the people AANA serves.

We will have items to fit every budget, plus there’s a little something for everyone. Children’s books, clothes, and toys; jewelry; pet accessories; and books galore. We’ll also have some exciting raffle items that you can use as stocking stuffers, including gift certificates for massages; dinners for two; sports tickets; and more. Check out our Facebook page to stay in the loop as we get more items added to the inventory.

If you don’t live in Arizona, not to worry! You can still shop ’til you drop with AANA’s online silent auction. Follow us on Twitter to keep up to date.
